The Roscoe Wind Complex
The
Roscoe Wind Complex is actually four projects in one. All four
phases (Roscoe, Champion, Pyron, and Inadale) are operational making the
complex the largest onshore wind farm in the world, with more
than 600 installed wind turbines capable of generating 781.5 MW.
Pyron Wind Farm
More
than 70 landowners recently welcomed the 249 MW Pyron Wind Farm into
their agricultural community near the town of Hermleigh, TX. The Pyron
Wind Farm generates 249 megawatts of clean energy using 166 GE 1.5 MW
turbines. Generating the same amount of power using a fossil-fuel based
power plant would emit approximately 11.5 million pounds of carbon
dioxide and consume roughly 275 million gallons of fresh water every
year. By comparison, no fuel or water is consumed in the wind farm’s
operation.
Pyron:
- Operational Date: 2009
- Turbines: 166 General Electric 1.5 SLE Turbines
- Nameplate Capacity: 249 MW
- Other Land Uses: Cotton and wheat farming
